STAFF ENGINEER

San Miguel Power Assn., Inc. (SMPA) a growing, diverse, and progressive electric distribution cooperative with over 13,500 meters, is looking for qualified applicants to fill the Staff Engineer position.  The cooperative is located in Southwestern Colorado, serving the San Juan Mountains including Telluride and Silverton, west to the Utah border, and has offices in Nucla and Ridgway, Colorado.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.   Requires experience in design, planning, construction, operation and maintenance of transmission, substation, and distribution systems; including coordination studies, voltage drop and load flow analysis, power quality investigation, and construction work-plan preparation. Ability to supervise personnel and projects as assigned.  Knowledge of RUS specifications and engineering guidelines is preferred. Candidate must be able to represent the co-op with external organizations, agencies, members and power supplier in a progressive, positive, and professional manner.  Must possess an understanding of regulatory compliance issues.  Possess excellent computer skills as well as excellent communication and organizational skills. Strong analytical and planning skills, be creative, deadline-driven and self-motivated.  Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license.  Salary is based on qualifications, and includes an excellent benefit package.

SMPA is located in the majestic mountains, mesas and plateaus of the western slope, with some of the most beautiful country in the United States.  Endless recreational opportunities abound, including skiing, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, hiking, climbing, photography, and many others. The service territory contains a varied membership, including residential, ranching, small businesses and ski resorts. Tourism is a large part of the area’s foundation.

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

San Miguel Power Assn., Inc. (SMPA) a growing, diverse electric distribution cooperative with over 13,500 meters, is looking for qualified applicants to fill the Chief Financial Officer position.  The cooperative is located in Southwestern Colorado, serving the San Juan Mountains including Telluride and Silverton, west to the Utah border, and has offices in Nucla and Ridgway, Colorado.

Candidates with substantial professional experience in accounting and finance within other industries will be considered. Requires a bachelor degree in business administration with an emphasis in finance or accounting or equivalent. A master’s degree or CPA license is preferred. A minimum of 5 years experience working with electric cooperatives or other utilities and knowledge of cooperative utility accounting and financial analysis is preferred.  A minimum of 5 years experience in a Senior Management role is also preferred. A sound understanding of electric cooperative utility accounting, finance, business processes and internal controls is essential. Must represent the co-op with external organizations, agencies, members and power supplier in a progressive, positive, and professional manner. Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.  Must be computer literate and have expert planning and organizational skills. Required to obtain and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license. Salary is based on qualifications, and includes an excellent benefit package.
