Although San Miguel Power is one of the most reliable electricity providers in the state, there may still be interruptions in your service. We live and work in some of the most beautiful and rugged areas in the country. That means weather and terrain can and do cause power outages. Avalanches, lightening and rock slides are just a few of the culprits. Most power outages occur unexpectedly due to these uncontrollable factors. In the case of an outage please call your local office immediately.

Before contacting us to report an outage, we ask that you please complete the following:

- Check to see if your neighbor has power.
- Turn off all major electrical appliances that were on, especially home computers, televisions, DVD players and your central heating/cooling unit.
- Check for tripped breakers or blown fuses at your circuit breaker panel or fuse box. If breakers and fuses are okay, call your local SMPA office.

After Hours
If you need to report an outage or emergency after regular office hours or on nights, weekends or
holidays, place your call to your local office. You will be immediately transferred to our 24 hour dispatch, who will contact our standby crew.

Safety and Hazards
San Miguel Power strives to provide electricity under the safest conditions possible. As our member, you can help with these efforts by following a few safety guidelines.

Immediately report any unsafe conditions or safety hazards. These include downed or dangling poles, leaning poles, or trees, limbs or any object that is tangled in the power lines. Similarly, if any objects such as a CB or TV antenna has fallen into or is in danger of coming in contact with a power line, call your local SMPA office immediately. DO NOT attempt to fix damage yourself as it could result in electrocution and death.

Remember to use caution when using metal ladders, long metal poles, boat masts or similar objects. These items become lethal when they come in contact with power lines and other electrical equipment. Do not attach any item - basketball hoops, signs, bird houses, antennas, etc. - on or near our power poles, lines or facilities. These objects can reduce our reliability and become a hazard to our employees.
