Mountain Village area Outage - 05/1/13:
Updated Thursday, May 2, 2013: Four hundred forty-five members in the Mountain Village area experienced a power outage on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 beginning at 7:21 p.m. Power was fully restored to 400 of those members by 9:30 p.m. Power was restored to the remaining 45 members around midnight (5/2/2013). The outage was due to a problem with the underground power line serving the area. Crews were able to isolate the issue and re-energize the line.
Dallas Creek Outage – 02/08/13:
Updated Wednesday, February 14, 2013: Fifty members in the Dallas Creek/Ridgway area experienced a power outage on Friday, February 8, 2013 from 11:20 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. Due to heavy snow accumulation a tree fell into a power line serving the area. Crews cleared the tree and re-energized the line.
Norwood area Outage - 10/12/12:
Updated Saturday, October 13, 2012 - 9:00am: A lightning strike to the Norwood mobile substation on Friday Oct. 12, 2012 caused a power outage to the Norwood area including the Raspberry transmission site. Power was restored early Saturday morning. Crews worked during the night to bring the Norwood mobile substation back online.
Nucla area Outage - 09/08/12:
Updated Monday, September 10, 2012 - 297 members in the Nucla area experienced a power outage from 12:06 p.m. to 1:17 p.m. The cause of the outage was a power pole that caught on fire near mile marker #64 on HWY 141. SMPA crews replaced the damaged equipment and restored power to all members.
Ridgway area Outage - 09/01/12:
Updated Monday, September 3, 2012 - Thirty members residing in the Ridgway area experienced a power outage from 5:42 p.m. to 10:28 p.m. The cause is unknown at this time. SMPA crew members were able to restore power by setting up an alternate feed for members in this area. Additional repairs and investigation will be done in the upcoming week.
Placerville area Outage - 08/30/12:
Updated Thursday, August 30, 2012 - Members residing and working in or near the Placerville area experienced a power outage from 12:00 noon until 3:25 p.m. An independent tree trimmer working in the area caused a tree to fall into our power line. Power to all areas should be restored.
Telluride, Mountain Village, Silverton, Ophir, Wilson Mesa, Specie Mesa area Outage - 08/04/12:
Updated Tuesday, August 7, 2012 - SMPA Crew members are making additional repairs this week to the Coal Bank Substation near Silverton in order to improve power reliability. These repairs include replacing the damaged/failed transformer.
The following areas were affected by a power outage on Saturday, August 4, 2012 due to failed equipment in the Coal Bank substation: Telluride, Mountain Village, Silverton, Ophir, Wilson Mesa, Specie Mesa. Coal Bank substation is located on the main transmission line that brings power to these areas. Damage in the substation interrupted power along the entire line. Crews were able to restore power to the affected areas by re-routing through an alternative location. Power was interrupted at 10:19 a.m. and was restored at 12:57 p.m.
The back-up transmission line (Nucla-Telluride Transmission Line) serving the area was not available as it is currently under construction.
